· To stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation and improve tissue condition:

As with Swedish massage movements stimulate blood and lymphatic flow. However due to the pumping action created by sports massage techniques the effects are greater are deeper.

· To improve the condition of the skin:

All movements during the massage increase nourishment to the skin and help to improve the condition.

· To improve the condition of the muscles tissues:

Kneading mobilises tissues, aiding their extensibility, flexibility and elasticity. It also helps loosen tight fascia and adhesions and increase muscle nourishment.

· To reduce stiffness and pain:

Improve tissue mobility and nourishment relaxes muscles and reduces stiffness and pain.

· To promote physical and mental relaxation:

Reduce stiffness and pain and increase warmth and relaxation.

· To stimulate bone nourishment:

Deep kneading presses tissue against bone, stimulating blood supply to the periosteum. This increases delivery of nutrients to the bone.

· Frictions break down adhesions.

· Frictions can aid fluid absorption around joints.
